Ypulse MashUp Recap Part Deux
Uh, hello?!? Mobile Marketing is soooo 2008!
Get with it. This year at the Ypulse Youth Marketing MashUp the big topic was Twitter, and more importantly, are teens using it?
The most common answer: No(t yet).
But, why hasn't this tech savvy generation adopted the newest, hottest platform? In my opinion, social media platforms are like shoes. Sure, you can use more than one (pair)- in fact, the more you have the more hip you are, but everyone has a "go-to" pair (Steve Madden's slouchy cowboy boots for me!). For teens, the online equivalent to a pair of Chuck Taylors is....facebook (gasp!).
One commenter on the Ypulse article "Why Teens Haven't Embraced Twitter...Yet?" wrote:
"...right now, t here is no reason for them (teens) to use it because for them, the facebook status bar accomplishes the same thing."
Teens have yet to see the personal benefit of a utility like Twitter...
According to Anastasia Goodstein of Ypulse, the majority of Twitter users are doing so for industry news and networking purposes. I suppose one could say that the appeal of a platform like Twitter skews to a slightly older, more professional demographic. Not to say there aren't teens on Twitter, as I'm told that nearly 25% of their user base is under age 25.
But, I bet if you walked a mile in the shoes of a typical teen you'd cover a lot of ground in the world of social media. So, how many of those youngsters are wearing holes in the soles of their Twitter accounts?
My opinion: Not many.
I have a penny, if you have a thought.
